Beloved Homeland 2010

The project “Views of Asturias”, an initiative of the Cristina Masaveu Foundation, promotes the creation of a collection of unpublished works inspired by Asturias and its people, and brought to life through the eyes of prestigious invited photographers.

Alberto García-Alix headed up the development of the first of this project’s editions. For its development, the photographer made a series of trips to Asturias, with complete creative and thematic freedom, and it resulted in the Beloved Homeland exhibition, whose catalogue of the same name can also be seen on this website.

García-Alix managed to become one with the Asturian surroundings. Through industrial landscapes, challenging architecture, nature in the abstract and unique portraits, the photographer offers an intense and poetic perspective on Asturias, between reality and allegory. A narrative guided by the artist’s eyes.

The exhibition was held in 2012 at the Centro de Cultura Antiguo Insituto in Gijón. Subsequently, the display was exhibited at the Conde Duque Cultural Center in Madrid and at the Museo de Electricidad in Lisbon.
