The works of Goya, Guinovart and García-Alix converge in Agramunt

Guinovart Foundation presents the exhibition The Black Stroke: Genealogies of Shadow in Agramunt (Lleida), a show that reveals a link between the engravings of Goya, the paintings of Josep Guinovart, and the photographs of Alberto García-Alix. The three artists, each with their own language and within their own time, use black and white “as a tool to intensify drama, texture, and truth.”

According to María Guinovart, curator of the exhibition: “Goya, with his Caprichos and Disparates, inaugurated a critical modernity that dismantles conventions to reveal the grotesque and the collective unconscious. Centuries later, Guinovart takes up this legacy of rebellion in his engravings, where abstract gesture and matter become a cry, a torn inner landscape that reflects the wounds of war. Finally, the inclusion of García-Alix’s work focuses on his unique photographic series taken inside the Prado Museum at night. These images are not mere documentation, but visual meditations where the artist confronts the masters (including Goya) in the intimacy of the empty museum”.

The exhibition is open to the public from February 22 to June 7, 2026, at Espai Guinovart (Plaça del Mercat, s/n. Agramunt, Lleida). More information is available on the website of the foundation.
