Reina Sof\u00eda Museum has unveiled its new collection, CONTEMPORARY ART: 1975-PRESENT. This new presentation of the Museum’s collections recounts fifty years of art history in Spain, from the Transition to the present day, through a selection of 403 works by 224 artists. The new narrative aims to highlight the contribution of contemporary Spanish art via three exhibition routes.<\/p>\n
The exhibition, unveiled for public display from 18 February, stretches across the entire fourth floor of the Sabatini Building, totalling more than 3,000 square metres. Its arrangement is linear and sometimes non-chronological and ranges across twenty-one chapters, comprising well-known pieces from the Reina\u2019s Collections and acclaimed artists such as\u00a0Picasso, Mir\u00f3, Dal\u00ed, Juan Genov\u00e9s, Juan Mu\u00f1oz, Cristina Iglesias, Susana Solano, Juan Navarro Baldeweg, Esther Ferrer, Cristina Garc\u00eda Rodero, Richard Serra\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Andy Warhol<\/strong>; figures closely entwined with the Transition to democracy in Spain and Madrid\u2019s Movida movement, for instance\u00a0Guillermo P\u00e9rez Villalta, Oca\u00f1a, Ouka Leele, Ceesepe, Nazario, Iv\u00e1n Zulueta and Alberto Garc\u00eda-Alix<\/strong>; artists whose practice is linked to gender sensibilities, for instance\u00a0Judy Chicago, Barbara Hammer, Eul\u00e0lia Grau, David Wojnarowicz, Pilar Albarrac\u00edn\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Cabello\/Carceller<\/strong>; and key figures in the cultural, political and social representation of AIDS, such as\u00a0Pepe Espali\u00fa\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Pepe Miralles.<\/strong>\u00a0Furthermore, it includes other artists who approach their work from political and theoretical stances within the critical framework of representation, for example\u00a0Joan Fontcuberta and Dora Garc\u00eda<\/strong>, and those who have developed different approaches to Afro identity, for example\u00a0Pocho Guimaraes, Agnes Essonti and Rub\u00e9n H. Berm\u00fadez.<\/strong><\/p>\n
